The EU: flexing its muscles against Canadian sovereignty

The EU is set to declare that Canada should be opening visa-free travel to more of its member-states, particularly central European nations, many of which are former Warsaw pact members.

Although I agree in principle that we should be engaging these nations directly, and offering some leniency due to their participation in the EU, I disagree with foreign entities attempting to dictate our foreign policy.

The EU is apparently going to go as far as to warn punitive measures if Canada does not comply.

This is unacceptable.

Canadians will dictate who we allow in to our country without Visa's.. Not Europeans.

Of course, it would seem there is little that the EU could really do to punish Canada; meddling in Canadian internal affairs is not something I can sit around and be quiet about...

Interestingly, CTV's non-scientific poll on their website is about 75% against allowing all member-states visa free status. If there was a margin of error of 25%, this would still show strong opposition to the idea.. And quite likely most of those responses are due to the approach, not necessarily the idea.
